Château Margaux Landmark Event at Sotherby’s Wine

On 17 October 2015 in New York Sotheby’s Wine will present Château Margaux 1900-2010 Direct From The Cellars: A Celebration of the Mentzelopoulos Era. This is a landmark event that represents the first time the historic First Growth has made a significant offering of wines direct from their cellars at auction. With a glittering history that has drawn admirers from Thomas Jefferson to Ernest Hemmingway to Chinese leader Hu Jintao, as well as a new generation of collectors from the Americas and Asia, Margaux is regarded as unique for the magnificence of both its wine and architecture.

The sale is made up of 239 lots estimated at $1/1.4 million and will be preceded by events in Brazil, Mexico and New York. Corinne Mentzelopoulos commented: “As we celebrate 200 years of wonderful architecture at Château Margaux, I am proud and happy to share with collectors around the world a selection of our wines that I have hand-picked for this unique sale. I cannot think of a better wine specialist than Sotheby’s for us to part with some of the most historic of the 20th century vintages, as well as the more recent wines produced under my family’s leadership since 1978. Any twinge of sadness I feel with these bottles leaving our cellars is overcome by the pleasure of knowing that they are destined to be enjoyed by Sotheby’s passionate and knowledgeable clients.”
