For many true car aficionados, the biennial Frankfurt motor show, 17-27th September, will be the highlight of the year. One of the world’s largest car events, it’s generally the first choice for manufacturers to debut their latest automotive creations – certainly for the European markets.
From hyper and supercars, to luxury saloons, hot hatches, electric cars and crazy concepts, this year’s show will feature it all – here are just a few of the new most exciting models that will be on display.
Jaguar will be revealing the new F-PACE performance crossover which will be the fourth model featuring the company’s all new lightweight aluminium architecture at the show.
Jaguar Land Rover chief marketing officer Gerd Mäuser said “2015 is Jaguar’s 80th anniversary and it has been a monumental year of transformation for the brand. First with the introduction of the innovative Jaguar XE closely followed by the class-leading all new XF. It’s is a very proud moment for Jaguar as we launch with our first performance crossover.”
Also displaying on the stand will be the 2016 XJ, all new XF, the new Jaguar XE and the 2016 F-type including a manual and a all-wheel drive version.
The new crossover hatchback Q30 gets its world premier at the show. Infiniti’s president Ronald Krueger says “with the Q30, we are entering a new segment for Infiniti and broadening the offer to our customers. This vehicle is a vital part of our strategy to be a top tier global manufacturer of premium cars.”
The main rivals for the Q30 will be Audi A3, Volkswagen Golf and BMW 1 series. It’s been two years since the Q30 Concept was first revealed at Frankfurt. The car will go on sale in Europe at the end of 2015 and will be the brand’s first model to be built in Europe.
The e-tron Quattro is Audi’s all new electric SUV concept and has a spacious interior with room for four people. The production model is expected to reach dealerships for 2018.
Its size falls between that of the hugely popular Q5 and Q7 – ideal for family use. The model should be more than capable of a 310 mile (500 kilometre) range, and with its low centre of gravity, due to the lithium-ion battery being below the passenger and between the axle, will have excellent driving dynamics. The e-tron will also set a new record in the SUV market with a cd value of 0.25.
Ferrari will be showcasing its stunning new 488 Spider. The turbo charged 660 BHP 3.9-litre twin turbo V8 will enable this Prancing Horse to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in a blistering 3 seconds and from 0-200km/h in just 8.7, and will go on to a top speed of 203mph . Frugal for a supercar too – this Spider is capable of 24.7mpg.
It features a two-piece retractable hard top which will fold away in only 14 seconds leaving you exposed to the sounds of the beautiful V8 right behind you. Even with the roof up on a rainy day you can open the rear window to allow the engine’s roar to resonate around the cockpit.
The new 2016 AMG Coupe will make an appearance at the show, taking the fight to the likes of BMW’s M4 and Audi’s RS5. It’s powered by a 4.0 litre twin turbo V8, sending 503bhp to the rear wheels in the top of the range S model and 476 bhp in the standard model. Mercedes claim 0-100kph in 3.9 seconds and will go on to a top speed of 155mph which is limited, you can opt for the AMG Drivers Package which will let the top speed rise to 180mph. Also if the AMG isn’t loud enough for you already, you could always add the performance exhaust!
Alfa Romeo will be showing the new Giulia – the successor to the 159. Set to rival the likes of BMW 3 series, Mercedes C-class and Jaguar XE, this is a hugely important car for the Italian company.
Both petrol and diesel versions will be available, together with a Quadrifoglio (Cloverleaf) version if you want a bit more drama with a 3.0litre V6 engine and 0-100km/h time of just 3.9seconds, making it a genuine M3 challenger.
With the help of this and other exciting models in development, Alfa Romeo is aiming for 400,000 units worldwide by 2018. It seems the hallowed Italian marque is finally back focusing on what it excels at – producing some of the world’s most stunning cars, and if what’s to come is as eye-catching as the Giulia, then there will definitely be a lot to look forward to in the coming years.
On show for Lamborghini will be the new Adventador Super Veloce Roadster. This rather awesome Italian hypercar features a 6.5 litre V12, pumping out an impressive 740bhp, and is capable of a top speed of 217mph. Just 500 will be made.
This impressive Roadster has Strata, Sport and Corsa driving modes, supported with an electronically controlled 4 wheel drive system and specially developed for the SV, Pirelli P Zero Corsa sport tyres. The roof is made from two carbon fibre panels with each panel weighing less than 6kg.
